Tranquil Old Growth Forest Walk

Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation • 222 Columbia St NW OlympiaWA  98501 Organized by Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation

About this event

Description

Join us for this walk surrounded by old growth trees in Squaxin Park. After a welcome to the land and guided meditation, we’ll stroll in silence and tune in to the sights and sounds of towering 100-year-old trees. We will explore the trails at a comfortable pace under the canopy of a living forest that is a thriving ecosystem, a network of soil fungi called the “Wood Wide Web.” We will marvel at the discovery that trees are social, that they communicate and nurture each other. You will also have opportunity to listen to a tree sing using instructor’s device that converts the tree’s electric signals into notes. Awaken to the practice of healing from nature, Shinrin-yoku or “Forest Bathing.” Instructor: Julie Ratner

Class will meet at Squaxin Park, 2600 Eastbay DR,NE Olympia (near the bathrooms opposite of the Rose Garden.) Parking may be challenging so please allow enough time to park. The Forest Walk will start promptly at 9:30a.m. Please dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.
