About this event

Description

Pickleball Intermediate Clinic:

The Pickleball Intermediate Clinic elevates your game, honing skills for extended rallies, controlled volleys (handling medium-paced shots, consistent shot placement, return, successful execution of lobs and dinks), and confident NVZ (Non-Volley Zone) play. Through targeted drills and game-simulated coaching sessions, you'll master basic strokes, predict opponents' moves, progress towards advanced clinics and play.

Level of Instruction: Intermediate – Adults. Candidates for the Intermediate Clinic should be able to engage in multi-shot rallies, play varying types of shots: including volleys, groundstrokes, dinks, drives and lobs.

Skills/Fundamentals Learned: Participants will learn:

  • Drop shot, shot placement
  • Volleys/half-volleys
  • Spin (adding, reading and reacting to spin)
  • Serves (drop, “standard”, backhand and spin serves).
  • Specialty shots (Around the Post (ATP), Erne, Misdirecting shots)
  • Team positioning (communication, responsibilities, stacking, playing the NVZ, responding to the lob)
  • Playing style/philosophy
  • At completion of the Intermediate Clinic, the student should be able to work toward a 3.0 rating. Practice and play against opponents of greater skill level will improve the student’s abilities and help to graduate to higher skill ratings.

Instructor: Archie Aquino has played tennis for several years rising to a 5.0 level tennis player. She is also a certified pickleball instructor through the USAPA. Along with English, Archie speaks German and Tagalog/Filipino.

David Lissy has been playing and teaching pickleball for over five years. David has an MA degree in Curriculum and Instruction and has written pickleball curriculum used in his camps and clinics. He grew up in the suburbs west of Chicago playing a multitude of sports including baseball, football, basketball, tennis, golf, table tennis, hockey, swimming, biking and running. David’s claim to fame during this time was winning his grade school’s table tennis championship! David’s main focus for teaching is to pass the enjoyment of the game along to new players.
