Description

Pickleball Beginner Clinic is designed to teach the basics of pickleball. Most of the emphasis will be on learning doubles play although singles play may be introduced but will be covered in more depth in subsequent clinics. Introduction to pickleball will include a general overview of the game, court layout, rules, proper form and technique.


Each day will consist of skills and drills to learn different types of shots, positioning, progression of play and scoring. Sessions end with coached play so participants will experience game situations.
Level of Instruction: Beginners – Adults
Skills/Fundamentals Learned: Participants will learn• Types of shots and how to hit them (ground strokes, volley, lob, serves)• Position concepts (serving position, receiving position)• Progression of play (serving, receiving, non-volley zone (NVZ) – “Kitchen”)• Scoring (accumulating points “Me – You – Who”, sideout)• Coached play (game situations, playing points, court position, shot selection)
Using the USAPA (USA Pickleball Association) Rating System, the student will complete this clinic with at least a 2.0 skill rating. • Understands fundamental rules • Can sustain short rallies • Can hit basic forehand, backhand, volley, and can serve • Understands basic court position
Instructor: Archie Aquino has played tennis for several years rising to a 5.0 level tennis player. Using her tennis skills, she transitioned to pickleball and is recognized as an advanced player in the Parker Pickleball program, where she now serves as one of two pickleball instructors for the Parker Parks and Recreation Department. She is also a certified pickleball instructor through the USAPA. Along with English, Archie speaks German and Tagalog/Filipino.
