Autumn is the season we say goodbye to summer, and this Fall we say goodbye both to Summer and to the Weekend of Restoration. Number 25 will be our last Weekend, and it will be a good one! The theme is the relationships between humans and nature that make conservation possible. Sarah Taylor from Colonel Palmer House, Crystal Lake Park District will talk to us about people’s relationship with plants from your native wildflower garden, focusing on the herbal and culinary uses of wild plants. We will have a geocaching treasure hunt on Friday evening. Who doesn’t like hidden treasure? Yes, and there’s more, like a morning hike early Saturday and Sunday mornings for those early birds who just can’t stay in bed when the sun is shining and the robin’s singing. Come and enjoy, explore, reminisce, tell tall tales, and do good work with others who care just like you care. Our restoration activity will take us back to the sites of the first Weekends, as we plant hundreds of native trees and shrubs to enhance a site we first visited in 2015. While we’re there, we’ll dig up a time capsule (more hidden treasure!) we buried back in ’15, as well as take a close look at our earliest restoration efforts. We will spend most of our time outdoors, so come dressed for the weather. Your registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and supper on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday morning.
