About this event
Details: This is a five-hour field trip that is divided between Resurrection Bay and four different learning stations; Seawater Analysis, Plankton Analysis, Seabirds and Marine Mammal Adaptations, and Fjord Ecosystems. For more information please click on the flyer that is located on our website. Please be aware this is NOT an overnight trip. However, if you would like to book a hotel room on your own, you are more than welcome to do that. Parent(s), please ensure that you register for the event. At least one parent or guardian will need to attend with your child. Students will: - Investigate the fjord and estuary ecosystem of Resurrection Bay. - Use a Niskin tube to collect seawater, then use thermometers and hydrometers to determine the salinity of the sample. - Use a Secchi disk to ascertain the turbidity of the water. - Use a plankton net to collect phytoplankton and zooplankton for examination under microscopes. - Observe the interaction of South-central Alaska’s intertidal organisms in a saltwater aquarium. - Examine study skins of Alaskan seabirds and discuss marine mammal and seabird adaptations to the subarctic marine environment. - Observe mammals and seabirds in their natural habitat, and view the bustling spring activity at Cape Resurrection! Length of Trip: 5 hours Price: Total per person: $60.00 Tickets are non-refundable Recommended ages: Grades 3 through 12 (and parents/guardians), no exceptions Departure Information: 10:00 am–3:00 pm, Check in 9:30.
