Teachers: Natalie James club intro and bio “This club will feature a read aloud component of a book/books that were also adapted into movies. We will read the book aloud together, do activities surrounding the book, and then move toward watching the film version as we complete the book. We will also compare/contrast how the movies and the books are similar/different. Questions such as: “What did the movie change? What did the movie leave out or add? Which characters were true to the author’s description? Was the setting what you imagined? (why or why not?0 Are you glad you saw the movie or do you wish you had skipped it? Why do you think that someone picked this book to turn into a movie?” Some examples of books could be: ages 5-7= Paddington, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Polar Express, Horton Hears a Who, Peter Rabbit, The Bad Guys (book series), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Where the Wild Things Are, The Cat in the Hat, Alice in Wonderland, The Lorax, Stuart Little, Stillwater, Home Alone; ages 8-10= Jumanji, Zathura, Polar Express, etc. BIOGRAPHY: My Name is Natalie James. I am the mother to one YSCP students in 4th and a YSCP alum now in 9th grade. I am also a formerly certified English/Language Arts teacher for elementary school grades K-5 and 6-8. I enjoy bringing the love of reading for students and believe it can provide context, community, creativity, and great dialogue for students. I look forward to reading and exploring books aloud with students of all ages, engaging in reflection and activities about the books, and using movie/film adaptations to further critical thinking. What a fun way to end your school day!
