This summer, immerse yourself in the world of the U.S. government! This extensive course will go beyond the textbook to give you a deep understanding of the Constitution, political parties, and the three branches of government. Through real-world applications, you'll gain the tools and knowledge necessary to be an informed and active participant in our democratic society. What You’ll Explore: -The Constitution & Foundational Principles: Understand the structure and function of our government. -Political Parties & the Electoral System: Dive into how parties influence elections and shape policy. -The Three Branches of Government: Learn how the legislative, executive, and judicial branches work together to govern the nation. -Civic Engagement & Decision-Making: Develop the skills to make informed decisions as an active, responsible citizen. To earn credit for the course, students must complete 4 hours of participation in the political process. Options include: -Campaigning for a candidate or issue -Attending local government meetings (e.g., city council, school board, township trustee) -Shadowing an elected official (with teacher approval) Students will need to gather signatures from event organizers, and more information about the project can be found on the NDA website. Important Notes: -Students can miss no more than one class to receive 0.5 credit. -This course offers guaranteed credit for NDA students.
