Description
This class is for brown and black belts or those approved by the instructor. Students will concentrate on perfecting kata, advanced techniques, deeper understanding of iaido and preparation for testing for higher rank. Students are required to have a full uniform and a practice sword.Iaido is a Japanese sword art that dates back almost 500 years. Iaido emphasizes the draw, cut and re-sheathing of the sword in one fluid motion. Not only does iaido teach the movements of sword combat but it also teaches balance, concentration, attention to detail and physical and mental awareness.
Instructor: Dan Keding has been studying and teaching iaido in Urbana for twenty four years. He has attended workshops and seminars in the U.S., Canada and Japan and has studied with some of the most respected teachers in iaido. He feels that the martial arts should be available to all people and that the discipline that is learned is valuable in all endeavors.
