(13-19 yrs) Pro-D Workshop: Stage Management

Granville Island, 1400 Johnston St • 1400 Johnston St VancouverBCCanada  V6H 3S1 Organized by Arts Umbrella Association

About this event

Description

Stage managers may be the glue that actually holds theatrical production together. From before the first day of rehearsal to tech, and through to the closing night, the best stage managers bring an alchemical blend of organizational skill, creativity, caring, composure and focus to their work. Directors, actors, designers and stage crew alike all rely on a stage manager to help bring a wide-ranging variety of interests into focus, resulting in the harmonious convergence of performance, tech, design and management.
In this workshop students will learn how to position themselves for success in high school or community production. Topics will include: setting up the prompt script, working with a director and production manager to schedule rehearsals, how to read between the lines to translate artistic language into practical cues, working with the stage crew, supporting performers through the rigor of rehearsal into performance, working with your fellow students and beyond. The workshop will provide insider tips for the student stage manager, and give the learner the confidence to stage manage their next production with heightened calm, confidence and clarity. Each workshop participant is asked to arrive with a laptop (PC or Mac) that is internet enabled, with access to the MS Office Suite, Google Workshop or iWork Suite.
