Nov 13, 2024: Winds & Brass Masterclass with Mary Byrne and collaborative pianist-accompanist, Jany Lu.
Regular masterclasses are offered for students in the Winds and Brass Department on Wednesday evenings. Classes focus on performance practice, ensemble, stage presence, tone, technique, breathing, and other instrument-specific elements. Masterclasses are facilitated through a rotation of senior VCM winds and brass faculty, including the department head and occasional visiting guest artists. These classes are designed to be informal opportunities to play for a small, friendly audience and supportive coach as part of the process of learning a piece of music, often in preparation for a future performance. We welcome students of all ages and abilities to join us.
Currently registered VCM winds & brass students are encouraged to attend regularly and can perform at no cost. Family and friends of performing students are welcome to attend and audit the class.
To sign up to play in the masterclass, please email Emily Nagelbach, Winds & Brass Department Head, email to: windsbrass.classical@vcm.bc.ca and include your name, your teacher’s name, and repertoire.
