Established in 1985, the Army Ten-Miler (ATM) is an annual event held every October in Washington, D.C. The primary objectives of the race are to promote the Army, foster esprit de corps, support Army fitness goals, and strengthen community relations. The race, organized by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW), serves as a platform for showcasing the Spirit of Sport and the Spirit of a Nation, drawing more than 35,000 runners and 900 teams worldwide. Participants encompass a diverse range, including military personnel, civilians, wheelchair athletes, and wounded warrior athletes.
ATM's mission is to contribute to Army outreach, boost morale, and advocate for physical fitness. The race is supported by over 900 Soldiers and 900 volunteers, reflecting its status as a "world-class" event. Now celebrating its 40th year, ATM has seen participation from over 459,685 runners since its inception.
As a category-B Army Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) event open to the public, ATM has played a pivotal role in generating support for MWR programs. Over its 40-year history, the race has contributed significantly, with proceeds exceeding $8 million for Army MWR. In essence, all race proceeds directly benefit Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation programs, solidifying the event's commitment to both the military community and the public.
