Students will learn the two movements and three stitches used in all bobbin lace. Three-4 fours lace samples will be completed. Waterford Craft School will purchase the supply kit from The Lace Museum for each student. The kit includes an 18 inch firm "cookie" pillow, covered; 12 pairs of bobbins; crocheted bobbin holder; lacemaking pins; 4 divider pins; pincushion; two cover cloths; DMC perle cotton size 8 in 6 bright colors; pricker for preparing a pattern; a pusher/puller for pushing in and removing pins; the patterns on grey cardstock; a square of rubber shelf liner for under the pillow; and the 55 page curriculum. Price of class includes materials fee. Linda Kay Benning Linda Kay Benning has spent her life exploring fiber arts, particularly heritage skills that brought color and income to families worldwide. She describes herself as "an inch deep and a mile wide" in fiber arts, finding joy in each new skill she tries. Linda Kay is president of the Chesapeake Region Lace Guild, a member of the International Organization of Lace (IOLI), the International Bobbin and Needle Lace Organization in Paris, and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. She frequently teaches for these organizations and virtually with The Lace Museum and Smithsonian Associates. She lives in Arlington, Virginia. Karen H. Thompson Originally from Denmark, Karen H. Thompson has made lace for many years and developed a four-week Beginning Bobbin Lace curriculum with The Lace Museum that has been used successfully in virtual and in-person classes. Karen is a member and past president of the Chesapeake Region Lace Guild, and a regular teacher at IOLI's annual convention. She is a lace designer, researcher, and 20-year volunteer at the Smithsonian American History Museum lace collection. Her book on historic Ipswich Lace is popular with lace makers worldwide.
