This comprehensive program prepares students to work as pharmacy technicians in retail or other pharmacy settings and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. Content includes pharmacy medical terminology, history of pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands-on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the top 200 drugs, IV flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition, dispensing prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. After successfully completing this course, students qualify to take the certifying exam. High school diploma or equivalency required. Testing fee is included. Job placement available after passing the certification test.Enter through door 20 in the back of the building.
