Description

This activity is closed to further registration.

Painting/Beginners (Introduction to Painting) is a course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of traditional oil painting. Students will develop a fundamental understanding of the complex medium of oil and acrylic paint through progressive exercises. Students will learn how to handle paint, mix colors, organize picture plane, and develop observational skills. Students will have the opportunity to work from several still life set-ups and will have the opportunity to work at their own pace on any or all of the still life paintings throughout the seven to eight weeks of the course.Note: While not required, it is highly recommended that you take a basic drawing class prior to taking this class. The focus of this course is on Representational Painting which assumes you have a basic understanding of foundational drawing skills.
• Create realistic paintings by developing drawing skills that will allow student to create a proper sense of form and proportion.• Develop observational skills that will enable the students to translate three-dimensional information onto a two-dimensional plane (the canvas).• Create a strong sense of shadow and light by observing and developing proper color and value structure of the subject matter.• Create accurate and dynamic color through proper color mixing.• Develop knowledge and understanding of the material (oil paint, brushes, medium, solvents, etc) required to make a proper oil painting.
