Le Tour de France: Top 4 King of the Mountains Contenders

Written by
The 2016 edition of Le Tour is one for the climbers. There are nine mountain stages with four summit finishes spread out over 21 days, so there will be plenty of action on the steep gradients throughout France. We've narrowed down the four contenders most likely to take home the polka dot jersey.
Rafal Majka
Tinkoff-Saxo

After his team leader crashed out of the 2014 edition of the Tour de France, Majka stepped up big for Tinkoff-Saxo and won the polka dot jersey. He has shown that he's more than confident in the mountains, but his ambitions may, unfortunately, take a back seat to Peter Sagan's green jersey and Alberto Contador's yellow jersey chase.
Pierre Rolland
Europcar

Thomas Voeckler was the last Frenchman to win the King of the Mountains title in 2012. Rolland wore the jersey in 2013 but ultimately lost to second-place GC finisher Nairo Quintana. With Quintana vying for the yellow jersey, Rolland has a solid shot.
Chris Froome
Team Sky

Despite losing super-domestique Richie Porte to BMC Racing, Froome's supporting cast is stronger than ever. With seemingly no weaknesses, Froome has a strong chance of bringing home both the polka-dot and yellow jersey—just as he did in 2015.
Joaquim Rodriguez
Katusha

Standing on the podium in both the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a Espana, Rodriquez has proven himself time and time again in the mountains. Illness has put a damper on the early part of Rodriquez' season, but a fifth place finish at the Tour of the Basque Country means his form is looking up.
