Gym Goer
If you're a gym goer, talk to the manager at your local club. Mention to him or her that you're heading out of town. He or she might have a contact to get you a free pass to a gym in the area you're visiting. You can also see if your gym is part of the passport special. Usually it's a piece of paper with facilities that participate and provide discounts if you're a member of another gym. You can also call the hotel where you're staying to see if they have any deals with local gyms. They might offer a free day pass or other discounts.
You can always call the gyms yourself to see what discounts they offer. Sometimes they will even give you a free week pass.
Avid Runner
There are many cell phone apps that you can download to help you map running a route, but start with a Google search the area and see what routes are listed online. Another idea is to contact a local running club and ask about their group runs. This way you can meet other runners and explore the area.

Love to Ride
It's hard to travel with a bike, but you can usually rent one from a local shop. They will often set you up with nice equipment and a great route. Ask the bike shop if they host any group rides and tag along. This is a great way to meet new friends and ask for more advice from local residents for other activities and sights to see.
Explore
You can also just head outdoors and explore. Lace up your sneakers and go for a walk. You never know what little shops you might find or what neat restaurants you'll want to check out. You can look for hiking trails that offer great views of the city you're visiting, too. Go online and check out GORP.com to find hiking trails in different areas.
If you don't have much time, download a few workout apps to your phone. You can do a quick workout routine in your hotel room before you head out for the day.
Staying fit on your trip can be simple with just a little planning.
