Their high-tech cardio equipment has revolutionized the way in which people can stay active from home. Similar to brands like Echelon, Peloton offers ever-expanding immersive training programs which provide a wide range of workouts and programs. But while the interactive training experience stands out as a popular Peloton feature, their line of cardio machines isn't too shabby either. Probably the most well-known of all the Peloton cardio machines are the flagship ones—the Peloton Bike and the Peloton Bike+. The line of Peloton products has since grown to include the Peloton Tread and the Peloton Guide, all of which offer the same interactive experience as the bike.
If you're thinking about taking the plunge and joining the Peloton community, you've come to the right place. The sheer amount of information available can be overwhelming, but that's why we're here to cut through the noise and break down the pros, cons, pricing, and more of each Peloton device out there. In this Peloton review we evaluate the Peloton Bike, Peloton Bike+, Peloton Tread, Peloton Guide, and the Peloton App so you can determine which might be right for you.

A Quick Look at the Peloton Family of Exercise Equipment
Peloton started with a small group of men who came together in 2012 with one mission: to transform the way in which people work out at home. This team consisted of specialists in technology, hardware, and production who joined forces to create an immersive virtual space that not only provided challenging workouts but also connected fitness enthusiasts from across the world through quality machines. The success of their efforts is reflected in the popularity and growth of Peloton as well as the world of immersive training as a whole.
Bowflex offers three main indoor exercise bike options: the Bowflex C6, Bowflex VeloCore, and Bowflex C7. Each has access to the Bowflex JRNY app, which gives you the option to do Peloton and Zwift workouts, and stream entertainment like Netflix and Hulu (with a JRNY subscription).
The Peloton Bike was their first piece of cardio equipment and the one for which Peloton is best known. The bike was an immediate hit and just a few short years later, they released the Bike+ which came equipped with a larger, rotating screen and modernized features. While they originally only offered cycling classes, Peloton soon expanded their range of classes when they released their first interactive treadmill in 2018, the Peloton Tread, and more recently, the Peloton Guide which is a strength-based workout.
Classes have evolved to include everything from yoga to HIIT-style boot camps. Leaderboards and challenges enable you to connect with other athletes, stay motivated, and find new ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle. All devices also come equipped with HD touchscreen monitors along with premium audio to create a real-life studio feel.

The bike that started it all, the original Peloton Bike, is in and of itself a solid stationary bike. The frame is constructed from powder coated welded steel, and we like how it comes with an ergonomic seat that’s adjustable. Along with handlebars that shift up and down as well as forward and backward, the Bike has three points of adjustment so you can find your right fit. Steel crank arms and aluminum pedals round out the overall construction. The pedals are delta-compatible, which is great if you already own a pair of delta bike shoes but an added expense for those who don’t.
Plus, a conveniently located resistance knob is used to control the magnetic resistance which, unlike friction resistance, does not cause as much wear and tear on the flywheel. Unfortunately, the Peloton Bike does not have incline or decline capabilities like other bike options (like the NordicTrack in particular), but technology and connectivity is where the Peloton Bike excels. WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0-enabled with a large 21.5-inch monitor, the HD touchscreen produces vivid images and a clear sound via the rear-facing stereo speaker system. It also tilts so you can adjust based on your height for better viewing. Featuring a 16 GB internal flash storage, USB microport, 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, 5 megapixel front-facing camera and a built-in microphone, the Peloton Bike sets you up for premium connectivity.
Finally, it's the connection to the Peloton virtual training platform that sets the Peloton Bike apart from just another stationary bike. With an all access membership, up to five people can enjoy the thousands of live and on-demand workouts, training programs, leaderboards, and fitness challenges.

The Peloton Bike+ is the premium version of the original Peloton Bike, featuring several upgrades intended to take your cycling experience to a new level. With its swiveling 23.8 HD touchscreen, it's possible to hop off the bike, turn the screen, and continue with a floor-based workout. What really strengthens the Peloton experience on the Bike+ are the 2.2 channel front-facing stereo speakers and 2.2 rear-facing woofers for 360-degree surround sound. You're able to experience the real feel of being inside a cycle studio. With membership to the Peloton fitness platform, thousands of classes are at your disposal, as well as upgraded connectivity and technology which makes the Bike+ an all-inclusive workout.
The Bike+ makes it easy to track your workout metrics via the Peloton App, or simply pair your Apple watch with the Apple Gym Kit integration technology. We especially like the magnetic resistance, which when combined with the power transmission drive belt, creates a smooth and quiet ride. Resistance can be controlled manually with a conveniently located knob found on the console or, when immersed in a cycling class, can be instructor-led for a more hands-free experience.
While the Bike+ is a step up from the original Peloton Bike, it also lacks incline and decline capabilities. This is certainly not a necessity given the range of resistance offered but it would've been a nice touch.

- Large, rotating HD touchscreen
- 360-degree surround sound
- Magnetic resistance with automatic trainer controls
- Relatively compact footprint
- Apple watch compatibility

Originally released in 2018, the Peloton Tread was the first interactive treadmill to join Peloton’s lineup of cardio machines. The latest version of the Tread possesses all the interactive programming and connected technology that its brand is known for along with some noteworthy safety features. Featuring a ‘Tread Lock’ safety control, the Tread requires a password to prevent unauthorized use (great if you have kids or pets around). An additional safety key is attached when running and when detached, will stop the treadmill immediately.
Constructed from carbon steel, the Tread is built to last and can support weights up to 300 pounds. Designed for those 6-foot-4 and under, it’s also roomy enough for most users. The belt is a standard rolling running belt but has minimal cushioning. It can feel stiff to some but the majority of runners report it has just enough bounce that makes it better than running on the pavement. The belt also has a center red line intended to keep runners centered on the Tread and to encourage better running mechanics.
Resistance and incline can be controlled with intuitive adjustable knobs, a jump button to increase by one mile per hour or one percent, as well as on-screen shortcuts. And the 23.8 inch HD touchscreen provides a crisp picture that immerses you in a scenic run or in the myriad of classes offered via the Peloton App. Our favorite feature, though, has to be the tilting display which amps up the immersive experience by including both front-facing stereo speakers and rear-facing woofers. The Tread also features the newest version of Bluetooth; Bluetooth 5.0 for ultimate connectivity.

- Peloton App access with membership
- Vivid interactive screen creates an engaging workout experience
- Built with quality components; strong motor and sturdy frame
- Bluetooth 5.0

- Multiple packages offered with some including add-ons like dumbbells, a water bottle, and a mat

Branching out past just cardio equipment, Peloton has recently released the Peloton Guide. This small device is essentially a fitness-based webcam that transforms any room into a personal training studio by connecting with your TV. Your TV becomes your guide, where you can strength train by following the direction of world-class trainers. Monitor your form by watching yourself on the TV screen alongside your instructor to ensure proper technique. The Guide is equipped with a “movement tracker” intended to track your movements and keep you motivated in each class. A "movement tracker" icon is displayed on the screen and fills up as you complete your workout.
With a monthly membership, users can access thousands of strength classes in addition to all the other types of other fitness classes offered by Peloton. The Guide actually provides personalized class recommendations based on the muscle groups you've worked in previous classes, a feature called "body activity." It tracks progress over time and, with the Peloton chest heart rate strap, you're able to more accurately monitor your heart rate and fitness metrics.
The Peloton Guide does not require any equipment but, if you plan on using it for strength training, you’re likely going to want some weights. Peloton does offer packages that include dumbbells and a foam roller, Guide Strength Starter and Guide Power. We also like how its lower cost is attractive to those who want the Peloton experience but are not looking to purchase an expensive piece of equipment.
PROS
- Access to thousands of classes with membership
- Less expensive than other Peloton devices
- Body activity feature helps plan future workouts
- Monitor your form with the self mode
- Live classes simulate the feeling of being in a studio training with an instructor
- Requires minimal space
- Can try 30 days risk-free
CONS
- Bluetooth can be spotty
- Tracking is unreliable for some
Peloton App
SPECS
- Compatibility: Accessible on computer, tablet, phone, and TV; Android, Apple TV, FireTV, Chromecast, Roku, LG, Airplay
- Languages(s): English and German
- Live classes: Over 100 weekly classes, daily schedules available in app for all class types
- On-Demand Classes: Strength, boxing, running, cycling, yoga, meditation, stretching, walking, bike bootcamp, tread bootcamp, Pilates, barre
The Peloton App is the heart and soul of Peloton as a whole. It’s the hub where you find thousands of live and on-demand classes, expert instructors, and curated music. The app also houses various training programs specific to a fitness type. For example, if you’re training for your next marathon, you can find a program to follow on the app. Gearing up for a 5K? There is a training program for that as well. We also like how equipment isn't required to utilize the Peloton App which has Android, AppleTV, FireTV, Chromecast, Roku, LG and AirPlay functionality. You can stream the class of your choice on any smart device.
Membership is required for all Peloton machines but if you don't plan on purchasing a bike or treadmill, the cost is just $12.99 per month for one user profile. This doesn’t give access to the live leaderboard, but it does open up thousands of classes for all fitness types. Peloton also offers a weekly schedule to register for classes up to two weeks in advance.
We especially like how you're able to access the extensive library of on-demand workouts with a membership. Choose from one of the 14 class types, filter by class length, or search for your favorite instructor and music. Peloton’s app tracks progress to keep you focused on your next fitness goal: Find achievement awards and various challenges for extra motivation. And, while the app alone doesn’t require any equipment, you may want some handy. For example, a yoga mat, dumbbells, resistance bands, and yoga gloves are items that can further enhance your workout.
PROS
- No equipment required
- Low monthly cost
- Clean interface
- Access thousands of classes and curated playlists
- Classes vary by type and length
- Free 30-day trial
CONS
- No leaderboard
- Can take some time to learn the Peloton language
Final Thoughts on Peloton Equipment and Experience
The Peloton brand has earned its reputation as a pioneer in the immersive world of fitness. Created with the goal of transforming how you experience fitness from home, Peloton has rightfully become the icon for this new trend. With thousands of live and on-demand classes, fitness metric tracking, challenges, leaderboards, music, training programs, and more, Peloton has changed the face of virtual training.
We think the Peloton hardware is as impressive as its platform, as each machine is created with high-quality components. Designed for maximum functionality, high-definition touchscreen displays and premium audio enhances the immersive power of Peloton, providing you with the feeling of being in a gym or fitness studio. The Peloton machines certainly come with a considerable price tag, but if you can afford it, we think it's a worthy investment towards your overall fitness and health.
FAQs About Peloton Equipment
How much does a Peloton cost per month?
Luckily, there are a few membership options Peloton offers that you can pick from based on your budget. The Peloton App membership costs $12.99 per month, includes one user profile, and doesn't require any equipment.
If you're interested in strength training, Peloton Guide currently has its own membership: The introductory guide-only membership costs $24 per month, covers five user profiles, and doesn't require any equipment.
If you're interested in purchasing either of the bikes, you have to subscribe to a $39 per month membership fee which grants you the highest level of access to on-demand classes, leader boards, and more.
Can I use a Peloton Bike or Tread without a subscription?
Yes, you can use the Peloton Bike or Tread without a subscription (you can cancel or pause the all-access membership at any time). Both offer a "free mode" which allows you to just bike or just run. There are no pre-programmed workouts with either machine but the "free mode" enables you to dictate your own workout.
Is Peloton good for weight loss?
Peloton is absolutely a great weight loss tool. The myriad of classes, challenges, leaderboards, and programming combined with top-of-the-line cardio equipment sets you up for success. However, keep in mind that consistently working out is key to weight loss and that is entirely up to you.
Additionally, working out is only one part of the weight-loss equation. Nutrition is just as, if not more, important as exercise. You have to be in a caloric deficit in order to lose weight, and that number will look different for everyone based on your individual height, weight, activity level, and genetics. But by pairing a workout tool like a Peloton machine with a calorie deficit, you’re on the right track towards sustainable weight loss.
