About this event
Six IN-PERSON sessions March 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22 Some writers have the extraordinary ability to create distinctive fictional worlds; they make a place, a time, a culture come to life. Such writers are William Faulkner of Mississippi, Alice Munro of rural Canada, and Raymond Carver of the Northwest. In this course we will discuss two short stories by each author, analyzing the way each constructs an imaginative world that replicates the actualities of everyday life. Karen Sirmans is a retired professor of English from Pensacola Junior College. Her fields were American Literature and Women’s Studies. Previously she has taught BULLI classes that focused on women’s literature; this time she will include two of her favorite male writers. Besides sharing her love of literature in BULLI classes, Karen enjoys living at Lanier Village Estates, singing in their chorus, reading for book clubs, gardening, and traveling.
