Description
Learn the basics of color and composition to create
paintings using acrylic paint. Participants should
come with basic drawing skills and reference ideas
for paintings. The elements and principles of design
are introduced and reinforced throughout. Supplies
needed: see the list on receipt or online.
Beginner to intermediate.
OPEN STUDIO TIME: While enrolled in a 6-week program at the LCAC, participants may use the program’s studio during non-instructional hours of operations.
Supplies:
You can wait until the first class before buying paint and brushes so the instructor may further explain materials. OR you can purchase the following:
1. 6B pencil
2. 1 sheet of 18x24 newsprint paper if you already have it
3. 16x20 pre-stretched canvas
4. Please select "professional grade” paint (heavy Body paint, no student grade paints please). Some brands Sarah likes: jerrysartarama.com carries liquitex heavy body professional brand or Goldens acrylic paint.
*Individual colors recommended: cadmium yellow medium, cadmium red medium, ultramarine blue, titanium white, ivory black, permanent green light, dioxins purple, alizarine crimson, burnt sienna, burnt umber and yellow ochre.
5. Brushes: white nylon synthetic filbert brushes #2, #4, #6, #10, Round #0, #3
6. Apron or paint shirt
7. Bucket for water
8. Disposable paper palettes
9. Ideas of what you want to paint (landscapes, flowers, birds, abstract designs, famous artists' work that appeals to you, etc.)
10. Optional: bring small canvas panel boards to try various painting techniques.
