Dealing With Allergies When You Love the Outdoors

Head to the Beach

If you live near the coast, get to beach as much as possible.

Incorporate the ocean into your activity for the day—go for a long swim, take a paddle, catch a wave, go sea kayaking or just play in the water. Saline solutions are effective at washing allergens out of your nose and the saltwater will wash allergens off your body.

Don't live near the coast? Consider planning a trip to the beach during the height of your allergies.

Pack a Neti Pot

On your next trip pack a neti pot and salt, which you mix into a saline solution. Read the instructions that come with your specific product, but the general rule of thumb is to mix 16 oz. of warm water with 1 tsp. of salt. Put this in the neti pot to wash out your nasal cavity. Perform this process once or twice a day until your symptoms subside.

If you love the outdoors, dealing with allergies couldn't be worse. Instead of letting it hamper your spirit, take the necessary precautions and get outside.
