About this event
The a-g Marine Science course will be a combination of bookwork, labs and hands-on lessons/field trips. This course requires a minimum number of participants in order to run. Textbook is required. Information will be given after registration. Students interact with and learn about the animals that live in the San Francisco Bay Estuary and local Pacific Ocean habitats. They have the opportunity to use real scientific equipment and handle live animals. Students will work on a final project all semester. There will be weekly homework assignments. Students will have a field trip to Stulsaft Park in Week 3, and Week 10 is an Ocean Lab at Marine Science Institute. There is an optional on-the-water 2-hour field trip aboard the R/V Robert G. Brownlee at the end of the semester. This requires separate registration. Family members who are 5+ years old can also join the optional boat field trip (registration required). Semester 1 curriculum structure: o Week 1: Unit 1 Ocean Environment o Week 2: Unit 1 Ocean Environment o Week 3: Creek Study Field trip o Week 4: Unit 2 Waves, Tides, and Atmospheric Circulation o Week 5: Unit 2 Waves, Tides, and Atmospheric Circulation o Week 6: Unit 3 Organisms of the Sea o Week 7: Unit 3 Organisms of the Sea o Week 8 Unit 4 Marine Animals o Week 9: Unit 4 Marine Animals o Week 10: Ocean Lab
