Packing Tips
Before you throw everything into a bag, you need to be organized. Again, remember you're sharing a van with a few other people and things will be cramped. So the more organized you are, the happier your vanmates will be.
Tip #1 Use Resealable Plastic Bags
Get the gallon-sized resealable plastice bags and label each one. Example: Leg one, leg two, leg three, comfy clothes to sleep, toiletries, snacks, comfy clothes for post-race party, etc.
Put everything in its appropriate bag. Now throw all the plastic bags into your duffle bag. Everything should fit with plenty of room. This way you won't over pack, and what ever you need is easy to grab.
Show up to the start wearing whatever you need for leg one. Your leg one bag should be empty. After you run your first leg, you'll throw those dirty clothes into that bag and put on either your comfy clothes or leg two stuff. Get the picture?
Tip #2 Changing and Sleeping
You're most likely going to have to change in the van. So if you're in a coed van, maybe designate the back row for changing. Or, change in the van at the transition locations while everyone is outside cheering runners on.
Your team can also designate the last row of the van as the snooze row. If a team member needs to sleep for a few minutes, he can snooze with his legs sort of stretched out.
There are transition areas that have designated sleeping areas. Some people camp out in their van, some outside under the starts and others inside the gym. You'll most likely get two hours of sleep, so choose wisely.
