In 1988, actor and philanthropist Paul Newman opened The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in 1988 to provide children coping with serious illnesses with a special hideout where they could simply be kids and "raise a little hell." The Camp, which served 288 campers in its first year, is now celebrating its 25th anniversary and serves over 20,000 children and families annually.
As part of the anniversary excitement, the Camp has launched a new logo and call-to-action for Team Hole in the Wall, a grassroots fundraising program that supports Camp's programs and mission.
"Our Team members help make Camp happen and as we continue to expand our programs to reach more children and families coping with serious illness than ever before, it's important to grow our community of support," said David MacNiven, Director of Team Hole in the Wall, "With Team Hole in the Wall, the opportunities to get involved are endless."
Athletes interested in helping the cause can join the Team and receive guaranteed entry into one of ten annual athletic events such as the New York City Half Marathon, the Five Boro Bike Tour or the New York City Triathlon. You can also choose any athletic event and make it a Team Hole in the Wall Challenge.
Non-athletes can join the fun by creating a unique event that utilizes their talents, skills and interests. In the past participants have turned everything from lemonade stands to golf outings to riding roller coasters into a fundraiser to support Camp.
