Jan Frodeno won back-to-back IRONMAN World Championship titles, and the 2008 Olympic gold medalist was looking to create a bit of a dynasty here on the Big Island. Then he had back issues and walked a lot of the marathon in 2017, and despite winning the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 title, he hurt his hip and couldn't get to the start line in Kona last year. He won a hot race in Frankfurt this summer and would like nothing better than to win his third IRONMAN World Championship title in 2019.
