About this event
Overview: The process of drying-in a house is exactly what it sounds like – protective layers are applied to the shell of the house so that the interior is protected from precipitation. Sheathing is the first step in this process which also involves a weather resistive barrier, roof underlayment, and window and door installation. Sheathing a house takes place immediately after framing. In fact, some contractors sheathe walls before they are raised. Sheathing is also an important step for the thermal performance of your house. A well enclosed house keeps air from blowing through the walls. This is often accomplished by carefully taping all the seams in the sheathing. The importance of air sealing will be discussed in this class. After completing sheathing and the rest of the dry-in process, subcontractors can continue to work inside the house installing electric, plumbing, insulation, and drywall, even before the exterior finishes (roofing, siding, etc.) have been installed. Project description: This class will work as a team to sheathe the tiny house started in the Tiny House Framing course. Students will install wall and roof sheathing with an integrated weather resistive barrier and tape the sheathing seams. This class is ideal for tiny house enthusiasts, and those interested in new construction of any kind, large or small. This class is part of our Tiny House series. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
