Coffee: Because adulting is hard.
Help me caffeine, you're my only hope!
Coffee humor is all over social media. It's practically a national obsession. Many among us–many moms, especially–wonder if they can even function without their beloved black gold.
But the truth is, you don't have to be a slave to coffee and other high-octane drinks. There are many ways to come back from the dead without a caffeine jolt. Even better, these energy-boosters don't come with the inevitable post-coffee crash.
Exercise
1 of 8Yes, it does take energy to do it in the first place, but exercise can actually boost your energy level, too. Get up and get your endorphins pumping the next time you're feeling tired. The increase in blood flow to your brain and skeletal muscles will keep you stimulated all day.
Laughter
2 of 8Laugher really is the best medicine. Whether you find yourself giggling at a friend's funny story, or while watching a silly movie, laughing instantly infuses you with energy. So, if you're in a slump and you need a caffeine fix, find a funny video on YouTube instead.
Hydration
3 of 8Staying hydrated keeps you alert and decreases your need for caffeine. If you don't like plain water, try fruit-infused water or flavored seltzer. Before you know it, water could be your new go-to beverage.
Fresh Air
4 of 8Ahhh. Fresh air is invigorating and a sure-fire way to boost energy. If you can't make it outside during your workday, simply open a window and breathe deeply.
Protein and Healthy Fats
5 of 8Swap that triple mochaccino for a smoothie or avocado toast. Foods that are higher in protein and healthy fats are a great source of steady energy. Compared to caffeine and sugar, they're far less likely to cause a "crash."
Music
6 of 8Invigorating, upbeat music can put a little pep in your step. So, put down the coffee mug and pick up the earbuds when fatigue sets in. Bonus energy points if you bust a move while you're listening.
Sleep
7 of 8This is a no-brainer. Skimping on sleep leaves you feeling dead tired, so make it a top priority. For more restful sleep, turn off all electronics at least 30 minutes before bed. Keep your phone across the room, too, and avoid the temptation to scroll through your social feed for more coffee memes.
