Celebrate Urban Birds at the Ornithology Center during the City Nature Challenge! Join us April 25-27 during open hours, Friday & Saturday 10-5pm and Sunday 1-5pm. All activities are free with park admission.
Did you know that Eagle Creek Park is a CITY park? Our park exists just 10 minutes outside of downtown Indianapolis! Throughout the weekend of April 25-27, we want to encourage our visitors to participate in the City Nature Challenge, a nation-wide initiative that turns everyday people into community scientists. We want you to join us for a weekend of urban bird-themed crafts, live bird programs, and conservation education! You can come to the park or simply explore your neighborhood, snap photos of urban wildlife, and submit them using the iNaturalist app—helping researchers understand wildlife in our cities. Join the iNaturalist group and document your observations from your own home or at the park.

How You Can Help Urban Birds:
- Watch for roadside birds and obey speed limits—never throw anything from your car window, as this attracts rodents to the roadside, which also attracts their predators (hawks/owls)!
- Support "Lights Out Indy" to prevent window collisions during migration.
- Avoid rodenticides—they harm raptors and other wildlife.
- Count and document birds using iNaturalist and eBird.
Bring your curiosity, your love for birds, and maybe even a pair of binoculars (or borrow ours). Let’s celebrate the amazing birds that share our cities and contribute valuable data to the City Nature Challenge iniative on iNaturalist!
